Micah Kallan

My work explores nocturnal landscapes, from the shimmering reflections of streetlights to the artificial illumination that shines on the natural landscape. I seek to capture the silent moments of the night, inviting viewers to ponder the mysteries within the scene.

I experiment with texture, color, and brushwork to convey a unique vision of the nocturnal world. Using exaggerated colors and abstract shapes, I create a visual illusion that blurs the line between realism and imagination. The closer one looks, the more abstract the image becomes, challenging viewers to engage with the scene on a deeper level.

My goal is to transport viewers to a realm where the boundaries of reality and nostalgia merge. I became interested in the network of spaces specifically lit quiet streets, these places are easily passed by. I encourage viewers to reflect on the emotions evoked by the quietness of night and to bring that mindset into their experience of my work. Through this journey, I want to reveal the night's secrets and inspire a profound connection with the unseen world.
